چکیده

Background-Endomyocardial biopsy has long been a useful tool to evaluate myocardial diseases. It is a gold standard in diagnosing cardiac rejection and certain types of myocarditis, but there is always a risk for related complications. We have assessed the safety and feasibility of applying long sheaths in endomyocardial biopsy via the femoral approach. Methods-We performed endomyocardial biopsy in 63 patients via the femoral approach and used a long sheath to guide bioptome from the venous access to the interventricular septum and evaluate the procedure success and complications. Complication rate of right ventricular endomyocardial biopsy via the femoral approach: a retrospective and prospective study analyzing 3048 diagnostic procedures over an 11-year period.

BACKGROUND An unequivocal diagnosis of myocarditis and cardiac virus persistence is based on histological, immunohistological, and molecular biological analyses of endomyocardial biopsies (EMBs). Biopsy-based diagnosis of myocarditis has become increasingly important because recent studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of biopsy-based causal treatment strategies (immunosuppressive or...

Endomyocardial biopsy via the femoral access - still safe and valuable diagnostic tool

BACKGROUND The endomyocardial biopsy has proven to be an integral diagnostic tool for surveillance of cardiac allograft rejection and identification of myocardial diseases. Nevertheless, this invasive procedure is not risk-free. This study focuses on the risk of complications and diagnostic performance of right ventricular endomyocardial biopsy (EMB). METHODS In this single-center retrospecti...

Cardiac catheterization through the internal jugular vein in pediatric patients. An alternative to the usual femoral vein access.

The percutaneous femoral vein approach is used routinely for cardiac catheterization in the pediatric age but in some children, it may be impossible as in the case of iliac vein or inferior vena cava thrombosis due to previous cardiac catheterization, or inconvenient as for right ventricular endomyocardial biopsies. In the period between 1982 and 1990, 160 cardiac catheterizations or right vent...

Demographic features and prevalence of myocarditis in patients undergoing transarterial endomyocardial biopsy for unexplained cardiomyopathy

Background The diagnosis of myocarditis is still a challenge. The true incidence of the disease is unknown due to great variation in clinical manifestations. Objective The aim of this study was to identify the demographic features and in-hospital prevalence of myocarditis in patients undergoing transarterial endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) for unexplained cardiomyopathy. Patients and methods Th...

Complication Rate of Transfemoral Endomyocardial Biopsy with Fluoroscopic and Two-dimensional Echocardiographic Guidance: A 10-Year Experience of 228 Consecutive Procedures

Endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) is one of the reliable methods for the diagnosis of various cardiac diseases. However, EMB can cause various complications. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the complication of transfemoral EMB with both fluoroscopic and two-dimensional (2-D) echocardiographic guidance. A total of 228 patients (148 men; 46.0±14.6 yr-old) who underwent EMB at Kyungpook Nationa...
